The Regional Rail Link was a $4.2b project co-funded by the State and Federal Government to build 47.5km of dedicated railway line to remove regional trains from Melbourne’s metropolitan railway system.
Advanced Lighting Technologies (ADLT) supplied Cree LEDway luminaires to illuminate the ramps and car parks at all 6 railway stations involved in the project. As part of the careful selection process, representatives from ADLT, Metro Trains, Major Projects Victoria and SKM Consulting Engineers visited an existing installation to see the Cree LEDway in action. Strict energy consumption and light levels had to be met.
West Footscray Station
The West Footscray Station included a complete rebuild of the station. The carparks have been lit to P11(a) using 29 x LEDway 120 (272 watt) on 12 meter poles and the ramps are lit to 50 lux average ( a Victorian Railways requirement) with 28 x LEDway 20 (50 watt) and 8 x LEDway 50 (116 watts).
The decision to use LED lighting on the RRL project was driven by both energy and maintenance reductions required by Government and MTM.
