A number of Regional Rail Link stations are the first of their kind to be awarded Green Star ratings from the Green Building Council Australia (GBCA).

The Regional Rail Link is a $4.2 Billion project of the Federal and Victorian Governments to build a 47.5Km dedicated railway line to remove the regional trains from Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo from the metropolitan track system. The Cree LEDway was chosen by SKM Consulting Engineers, after preliminary calculations on light levels required, evaluation of the construction, performance and warranty by MTM, strict energy targets set by government and visiting the recently completed Westfield Fountain Gate Shopping Centre car park where the LEDway had been used. The visit to Fountain Gate included representatives from SKM, Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) and Major Projects Victoria.
