Big Chill Distribution Ltd is a nationwide chilled & frozen transport company operating 24/7. The lighting solution for their distribution facility in East Tamaki had a unique set of challenging requirements.

CHALLENGES

A top quality light fitting made from highly reliable materials and components suitable for a food storage environment was required for this project. Similarly the light fitting had to accommodate a wide range of operating temperatures, specifically an extremely low operating temperature of -24°C for the freezer store.

With mounting heights of between 7m and 14m high, the light fitting had to provide high illuminance levels and uniformities both horizontally on the floor and vertically on the storage racks. An average maintained illuminance level of 300 Lux horizontally at 1m above floor level to the freezer and chiller storage areas had to be achieved with minimal glare and maximum visual comfort. The light fitting had to be easy to install with no major penetrations allowed into the insulated ceiling material.

The PRACHT Apollo N LED light fittings supplied can operate down to -25°C and were delivered to site pre-wired with a special low temperature rated supply flex. Constructed from ‘Prachtopal’, a low glare diffusing material which is impact resistant and designed specifically for food storage environments. Fully sealed to IP65 using short, age-resistant silicone seals and carries a factory backed 5-year warranty ensuring piece of mind for Big Chill. The stainless-steel clip system allowed for fast and easy installation on site with two simple mounting clips.
