The Werribee Street Level Crossing Removal project was delivered as part of the Victorian Government’s Big Build program, aimed at improving safety, easing congestion and enhancing rail efficiency.
Located in the heart of Werribee, adjacent to busy Geelong Road, the project involved elevating the existing rail line above Werribee Street, while also upgrading surrounding public spaces, including shared-use pathways, landscaping, and a skate park.
Advanced Lighting Technologies were trusted to provide the pathway lighting solution underneath the new rail bridge. We supplied the advanced and innovative Cree Lighting Syrius Street & Area Light as part of the upgrade.

When evaluated alongside the glare metrics outlined in AS/NZS 1158.3.1:2020, the Syrius doesn’t just achieve compliance – it significantly exceeds the requirements – setting a new benchmark against which all other luminaires should be measured.
At Werribee Street, the Syrius was supplied in warm 3000K, delivering a softer, more welcoming light for path users. Using warmer colour temperatures can help to reduce a perception of harshness in external lighting, while also improving visual comfort and limiting blue light spill into the night-time environment.
By eliminating boom gate delays and improving traffic flow for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, the project supports the growing transport demands of Melbourne’s west and contributes to a safer, more reliable rail network.
